Removable Full-Arch Replacement

Implant overdentures

Implantology

Implant overdentures are removable dentures that are secured over dental implants. They can be used as replacements for your missing upper and/or lower teeth.
Regular dentures rest on the gums and rely on tissue and bone for support. The retention of the denture on the implants is made by using special attachment systems. The most used ones are the ball-retained dentures and bar-retained dentures. These attachments can provide a range of tightness depending on the patient’s comfort level but will still allow the denture to be easily removed when necessary.

You can remove your overdentures at night to cleanse them, making them an easily maintained, affordable solution for missing teeth.

Regardless of the attachment system, the base of the denture that imitates the gum is made of acrylic. The teeth, which will be attached to the base, can be made of acrylic, composite or even ceramic. Whatever the case may be, the teeth will look completely natural.

Ball-retained dentures

Each dental implant holds a metal attachment that fits into another attachment on the denture. In most cases, the attachments on the implants are ball-shaped and they fit into sockets on the denture.

Bar-retained denture

A thin metal bar in the shape of the jaw is attached to the dental implants. The denture fits over the bar and is securely clipped into place by clips or other attachments.

Advantages of implant overdentures

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO USING IMPLANT OVERDENTURES?

  • the denture is firmly fixed and there are no risks of it falling during talking or chewing
  • improved aesthetics, natural aspect
  • the bone around the missing teeth is better preserved since the implants replicate the natural root of the tooth and stimulate its preservation; bone loss is therefore greatly reduced
  • a durable and comfortable solution for toothless patients
  • implant overdentures are a less expensive treatment than a fixed bridge anchored on the implants
  • you can taste food, because the base of the denture does not cover the palate
  • since there are no fixed, but rather movable parts, they are very easily cleaned

Taking care of an overdenture

For the best results over time, it is very important for the denture to be removed and cleaned accordingly every evening. It is just as important to clean the anchoring systems. This way you can prevent infections around the implants.

IMPORTANT! Patients should attend regular checkups following the installation of their overdentures to ensure any routine maintenance treatment required is carried out when necessary.
